Description

Maple and Pickles’ puppies have made their arrival. Maple gave birth to 8 happy and healthy puppies on May 18th. She had 6 girls and 2 boys. We have boys and girls available.

Maple (Adirondac Sugar Shack Princess) is a sweetheart of a dog. She is the typical Golden Retriever; she loves every person and other dog she has ever met. She is calm in the house, but she loves to work in the field. She is a fantastic marker and has the drive and grit to get through tough set ups and heavy cover. She has 2 NAHRA Hunter passes, 1 AKC Senior upland pass, 1 NAHRA Working upland pass. She has never failed a test she has entered.

She spends her hunting seasons flushing pheasants, woodcock and grouse and retrieving ducks and geese in every scenario. She has retrieved geese from small ponds and creeks to big open lakes.

Pickles (Surf’N Turf Pine Hollow Here’s the Dill) is my personal gun dog. His sire is High Times Headm Up Movem Out MH who qualified at the 2013 Master National. His dam is an import from one of the most well respected English working Golden Retriever kennels: Treunair. We can trace Pickles’ line directly to Treunair Cala who won the IGL in 1952. Treunair Dalsmeran is one of a long line of Goldens who have proven themselves for decades on shoots and field trials in the UK. Pickles blends American hunt test power with English problem solving. Pickles loves to learn and figure things out. He loves technical work and has a fantastic nose.

These puppies will excel in the field and any dog sport. The puppies will come with AKC registration, first shots and dewormed and will be socialized with kids, animals and people. They will come with a health guarantee against any breeding fault. They are being raised in our home with plenty of attention and love. Pictures, videos and references can be had upon request.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?
  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.
  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.
  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.
  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.

🧠 Final Thought

Buying a gun dog is your responsibility. Do your homework on both the breed and the breeder. Make sure your decision is informed, confident, and in the best interest of the dog.
